India Bar Considers Age Limitations
Throughout human history, the elderly have ordinarily been regarded as the source of wisdom because of their life experiences. The Bar Council of India is considering instituting age restrictions which will deny anyone over the age of 20 the right to seek admission to the integrated five-year lLB course which is open to candidates who finish 12th standard or an equivalent course of study. The age limit for the three-year LLB degree would be fixed at thirty provided applicants hold a Bachelor’s degree in any discipline. The only exception would be candidates who belong to the Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes or other groups who are protected under Indian law.
Many Indian law colleges are upset because these restrictions will impact their enrollment. There is also concern about denying those from poorer levels of society who work, save money, and later in life seek to enter the legal profession.
