6286The Dean’s Committee on Social Justice in the College of Education (DCSJ) and the UMSL chapter of the Young Activists United STL are sponsoring a yearlong film series on access to higher education beginning next week.  The first session, “The Price of Admission” will begin at 5:30 p.m. in the Boeing Auditorium of the Technology and Learning Center on Thursday, October 25.

Many households are encumbered with high rates of student loans. Tuition rates continue to rise. And, many working class and minority students still do not have access to higher education because of rising costs of college. Are student loans the next subprime mortgages? Are tuition prices the next “bubble” to burst? How are people and institutions responding to the student debt crisis?

This yearlong series will explore these questions through short films and in depth discussions of these timely issues.  Resources for further learning also will be provided to those in attendance.  More details and full schedule are available here.
