Grad Students Conduct Study at Adventure Camp of Variety St. Louis
Three graduate students: Ambumulire Phiri, Chelsea Davis, and Emily During, conducted research through the college’s Center for the Research and Study of Disability, Education, and Culture (CRSDEC) this summer at Adventure Camp of Variety St. Louis. Thirty-one children with disabilities, that included verbal limitations or communication disorders, participated in the study, whereby the children were taught to use and improve their self-expressions using iPad technology. Preliminary results of the three weeks of data collection indicate that the children achieved significant gains when using apps to assist them in communicating with others.
