Looking Back: Happy Hour on the Rooftop
On August 16, the College of Education’s alumni and friends group, the Circle of Educators, co-sponsored with the COE a happy hour Welcome Back event at the Moonrise Hotel for new and current COE doctoral students. We were also grateful for a supporting donation from Dr. Curt Coonrod and Mrs. Diane Coonrod to make this evening possible. And what a wonderful event it was! The curiosity and excitement was evident, as current and new doctoral students mingled together with faculty and college leadership, with sparkling conversations and connection building abundant. College of Education Dean Ann Taylor praised the event as a wonderful opportunity for building our relationships with and among students: “After a two-year hiatus due to the COVID pandemic, I was pleased to see such a strong interest by our candidates,” said Taylor. “So much interest, in fact, that we had to close registration and will have to find a larger venue next year. It is a great networking opportunity, and next year we hope to continue to grow the event to include doctoral alumni.”
Over 75 students, including several recent graduates, gathered on the Rooftop Bar to share stories of how their faculty and staff supporters provide a transformative, scholarly learning experience as they pursue the highest level of doctoral work. The College of Education is the rightful intellectual home of choice for educational leaders, reflecting UMSL’s standing as a tier 1 research institution, with a national ranking of 107 among all public universities. The attendees also heard Dean Taylor add to the excitement of the evening, as she shared the news of the anticipated move of the College to the North Campus.
